Rules

We will use a modified rotisserie scoring system taking features from different types of fantasy baseball leagues. It will be sort of like a rotisserie league, but still compete like a head-to-head league, in that you will have standings based on a W-L record against the other teams.

Our regular season will be made up of 11 sessions, each one about a week-and-a-half long. Each session will run from a Friday through the following Sunday, basically from the beginning of a weekend MLB series through the following weekend MLB series.

Each session you will need to start a player at every position (C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, and 3 OFs), and a Utility player/DH and six pitchers.

There is no distinction between LF, RF and CF, and there is also no distinction between starting pitchers and relief pitchers. Strategy can come into play, for instance if you wanted to, you could start six relief pitchers, and probably be assured of winning the 'Saves' statistical category, but you probably wouldn't fare as well overall.

In true rotisserie style, in each session you will be competing against the other nine teams in the league in ten categories, five batting and five pitching. The batting categories will be BA, RBIs, HRs, SBs and Runs. The pitching categories will be ERA, Wins, Saves, WHIP (Walks and Hits given up divided by innings pitched), and Ks. To calculate things like BA, ERA, and WHIP, the individual components are added and then calculated for your team.

(The following example is based on if we have 10 teams.)

Your rank in each category will be converted to points (1st = 10, 2nd = 9, 10th = 1) and the points in each category will be added together, so if you take 1st place in every category, you would have a perfect score of 100 points. Any ties in position will share the points, (For example in a two-way tie for 4th place in a category would each team get 6.5 points - sharing the 7 points for 4th and the 6 points for 5th.) That will translate to wins and losses by comparing your score with the other nine teams. So the first place team in a session will be 9-0 (because they beat the other nine teams), the second place team will be 8-1 (they lost to the first place team, but beat the other 8 teams), the third place team 7-2, etc.

Ties in session results will not count in standings, and those games will be made up, if necessary, in a twelfth session right after the regular season, before the playoffs, only if those games are necessary and could cause a change in the playoff positioning. For example in the following example, Example 2, the fourth and fifth teams tied with 67 points, so they really each went 5-3-1, but the tie doesn't count in the standings so it only shows 5-3, and they'll have one less game than the other eight teams. Notice in the standings that after Session II each team has played 18 games, except for Atlanta Flying Fleet and Team 9, the teams with the tie, which have only played 17 games.

Same as with a three-way tie, in the above example if Eclispe had had 67 points also, all three teams would be 4-3. (actually 4-3-2)

So by the end of the season there might be a bunch of ties, and they will all be made up in Session XII, only if they are needed to decide any playoff positioning.

At then end of the regular season, after Session XI, every team will have played 99 games in the standings, less any ties.

During the sessions, I will try to update stats on a regular basis, but I can't guarantee I will have it updated everyday. However, by midnight Monday following the end of a session I will have those session results to the website.

If you don't turn in starters by midnight on a Thursday before a Session starts, you will keep the same starters from the previous Session.

By midnight of each Sunday at the end of each session will be the deadline to release players or to put them on Injured Reserve. (Actually, you can release players at anytime, but if you do it after midnight Sunday night, you won't be able to pick someone up until the following session.)

You can have up to three players on injured reserve at any time.

Sometime before midnight on Monday, I will post to the website the players released, and the teams that are eligible to pick up on the wavier wire, the team with the worst W-L record gets priority.

Sometime on Tuesday, before midnight, you should email to me who you want to add to your roster, whether it's a free agent or a player released by another team, or to recall a player from your injured reserve. If there is more the one team on the wavier wire, then you should list a second or even third choice, if you aren't the team with the worst record, because if a team with a poorer record than your team wants the same player, then you will end up with a vacant roster spot until the next session, if you don't have an alternate selection. (If you are just recalling a player from IR, you don't need an alternate selection, because only you have any rights to him, of course.) So if five teams release players and are on the wavier wire, and you have the best record of the five, you should list four alternate choices, just in case the four teams worse than you all take the other players you may want. Your second choice may even be the player you just released, if you only released him because you just wanted to make room to pick up a particular free agent, however a team worse than you may, of course, pick up any player you release.

You can drop as many players as you want during a given session, but if you do drop more than one player in a given session, your second and additional selections off the wavier wire will be after any other teams have taken their selections. (That means that if you have two pick ups and you have the worst record, that doesn't mean you get both pick ups before teams with better records. After you get your player, your priority goes to the end of the line.)

By midnight Wednesday, the commissioner will e-mail a list of the wavier wire results (or post to the website) so each team can see which players they received.

By midnight Thursday, you should have e-mailed in your starters for the following session.

By noon Friday, before any games have started, the commissioner will have the new session's starters for each team posted to the website.

Any trades may be done at any time before midnight July 30, our trading deadline, with the exception of players that are in starting lineups may not be traded during a Session.

Any trades that appear to be unfair or one-sided may be vetoed by the commissioner.

The last roster moves involving free agents and pickups using the waiver wire will be August 23-25, however if you have players on IR, they can be recalled at anytime up through the World Series, but of course you must either release someone to make room or place someone else on IR. Of course, in order to use the IR those players must actually be injured. If someone on your IR is activated in the MLB, then you must either make room on your roster to activate them or they will automatically become a free agent.
